Who We Are Young Womens Place Inc was established in 1991, under the auspice of the YWCA Toowoomba in response to a need defined by government and the Darling Downs community for a proactive service for young women aged 12 to 25 years; focusing on those whose needs were not currently being met in the community. Young Womens Place Inc incorporated as an organisation and moved to its current address in 1994. Since that time, the organisation has expanded its client range to encompass young women 10 to 30 years, their families and/or significant others including men and boys.Young Women's Place Inc is a health and homelessness information, support and referral service supported by a drop-in centre. Young Women's Place Inc is the only service of its type across the whole of the Darling Downs and out to the Greater South West border with the closest similar services being located in Brisbane.Young Womens Place Inc is currently receiving on-going funding from the Queensland Governments Department of Communities under the Supported Accommodation Assistance Program (SAAP) and the Innovative Health Service for Homeless Youth Program (IHSHY). Young Womens Place Inc is also funded by local community organisations including Zonta, local businesses and individual donations including in-kind support.Young Women's Place Inc is a choice-based service operating from a woman-centered, strengths-based perspective using community delivered, relational and service provision frameworks.

Mission and Philosopy Mission StatementYoung Women's Place Inc offers a safe and peaceful environment which encourages the development of the individual. We adopt a holistic approach to meeting the needs of young women aged 10 to 30 years, their families and significant others, facilitating opportunities for their participation. We value confidentiality, non-violence, open communication and cooperation.Young Women's Place Inc operates within a strengths-based environment that facilitates the self-development of young women through the enhancement of their capacity for informed decision making and self-determination.We provide information, services and resources to young women in order to enhance their life choices and counter discrimination as it may present within the context of their lives. This service will endeavour to operate from a preventative and pro-active position.At Young Women's Place Inc we strive to maintain knowledge of issues that may impact upon young women and contribute to policy development wherever possible. To this end, we lobby and advocate on behalf of young women. Staff and Management Young Women's Place Inc is staffed by PAID staff, UNPAID staff, STUDENTS and VOLUNTEERS!Young Women's Place Inc is funded under the SAAP and IHSHY programs for the following staff:Coordinator/Senior Practitioner - Dianne AuchettlYouth Worker Elissa VickersYouth Health Worker/Administration Officer - Samantha DaltonABoriginal family support worker - lesha boneyYoung Women's Place Inc as an incorporated association has a volunteer-based management committee of committed individuals who ensure the service is operating to its full and appropriate capacity. They are also responsible for the larger decision-making and overall management of the service. Young Women's Place Inc also relies heavily on student and volunteers to ensure that the services offered are provided. Young Women's Place Inc is constantly looking for qualified people wishing to volunteer their services to assist our service move onwards and upwards!

What We Do Young Women's Place Inc can provide the following services to persons accessing the service:Drop in Centre for time out •Showers•Washing machine / dryer•Cooking facilities•Free tea / coffee / Milo •Toiletries / community donations •Computer access / Internet access•Library with a large variety of subscriptions to newspapers, newsletters and magazines from network groups •Emergency Relief – food cooked by church, donations from community•Free use of Phones / Fax /Photo copier•Cinderella Closet - Donations clothes and household items•Meeting space for mainstream service that are having trouble engaging youth ie Mental Health Service•Information brochures from other services and Government Departments including the promotion of local events and activities and other programs •Financial / Budgeting Advice•Anger Management •Sexual Assault Assistance•Childhood Abuse Assistance•Self Harm and Suicide intervention •Legal Issues•Drug /Alcohol/ Substance Abuse / Gambling Advice•Depression /Mental Health /Anxiety•Relationship Advice•Emotional Support and Advocacy •Domestic Violence Assistnace and Advice•Accommodation and Housing Assistance and Advice•Grief and Loss•Stress & coping•Choices Counselling for Unplanned Pregnancies •Pregnancy and Parenting Advice and Assistance•Custody issues•Employment, Education and Training Information and Support•Transportation issues•Health issues•Family and Friendship conflict and issuesAs well as many other services.

Groups and Programs

Young Women's Place Inc offers a range of programs designed to suit a variety of people, schools and agencies accessing the service. These include but are not limited to:

•Young Mums Group (Maternal and Child Health, Postal Natal to 5 years, Social / Peer Support , Education)

•Getting Ready Group (Antenatal group for young pregnant women to discuss issues around pregnancy, birth and becoming a parent with Young Women's Place Inc Doula's)

•Secret Chicks (building resiliency and self esteem group for grades 8, 9 and 10)

•Girls Talk (building resiliency and self esteem group for grades 5, 6 and 7)

•Fuel Up (budget cooking for families and children and health food choices)

•Anger Management groups

•Aboriginal Womens Group encompassing Toowoomba, Oakey, Dalby and other regions

•PRISM (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Group for the Toowoomba Region)

•Core of Life (Pregnancy and Parenting)

•Baby Think It over (Computer Babies)

•Save the children Future Parents / Babysitting course

•OzCare Smooth Runnings Program (Life Skills)

•Growing Strong

•Pleasurable Parenting (P5)

•ANZ Money Matters

•Circle of Security (Attachment between mother and baby)

Donations

Young Women's Place Inc accepts donations in three forms. These are:

Financial Donations:

Support Young Women's Place Inc by making a financial donation. All donations over $2 are tax deductable.

Clothing and In Kind Donations:

Support Young Women's Place Inc by donating your unwanted clothing, furniture, household items and childrens toys. Young Women's Place Inc also accepts donations of food and toiletries.

Time Donations (Volunteering):

Young Women's Place Inc relies heavily on the support and commitment of volunteers to deliver services to people in Toowoomba and the South West Region each year. Volunteering is a great way to make new friends, gain skills and make a valuable contribution to your community.
