Young
Women’s Place is currently running a project
called the ‘Positive Media Images Project’.
The aim of this project is to consult with young people
in the Toowoomba region to discuss their personal experiences
with the media, and how they perceive both positive and
negative media attention impacts on their lives.
Another aspect of the project will focus on the creation
of a youth magazine by a group of young women to
address any issues that arise from these discussions.
The magazine will be used as a way of encouraging the
young people involved to proactively address issues that
concern them.
WE ARE LOOKING FOR…..
-
Contributions for the magazine including stories
(fictional or real), poems, artwork, and articles.
-
The
focus of the magazine is around young women’s
health and wellbeing, and Alcohol, Tobacco or other
drugs.
-
One article that must be featured is a profile on
a particular drug, eg. Speed, LSD, Tobacco, etc.
-
We
are also very interested to include an article
or story around ‘coping/living with parents, or
family members that are drug users’.
-
A
suggested theme to the magazine is also ‘peace,
power, and choice’.
The magazine will be 12 pages long, A5 size, with a colour
front and back cover. Although it sounds small, it will
be full of many wonderful contributions from our clients,
and circulated back to the community through schools, agencies,
and individuals. All contributors will be listed in the
magazine (unless requested to remain anonymous).
THIS IS YOUR CHANCE TO GIVE SOMETHING BACK TO THE
COMMUNITY AND TO WOMEN IN GENERAL!
If you wish to contribute to the magazine project please email
us, or phone (07) 4639 4380 and ask to speak to the
Youth Health Worker.
